Emerald Green
It's award season and we've been treated to the site of lots of gorgeous celebrities strutting down the red carpet in their evening dresses. The red carpet has shown that one of the clear trends of the season is deep emerald green. Angelina Jolie wore a stunning long sleeved green dress by Versace to the Golden Globes, which positively shimmered thanks to all its sequins. Mad Men favourite Elizabeth Moss wore a beautiful emerald green dress by Donna Karen, whilst my new girl crush Mila Kunis wore an emerald green Vera Wang dress. Kunis scored extra style points because her dress was right on the asymmetric trend and had a slight Grecian vibe thanks to its swathes of gathered and folded material.
Deep blue
Another on trend colour for evening dresses is intense blue shades. Jason Wu showcased a stunning blue evening dress on the catwalk, although its see-through top may be a bit risqué for some. There are lots of different style options for a deep blue evening dress so go for one in a cut that you know will flatter your figure. If you have a good bosom then you could opt for a plunging neckline like on Dian von Furstenberg's blue evening dress design. If you have an hourglass shape then you might want to go for a more figure hugging option, perhaps with an on trend fishtail skirt. If you hate to dress up then you could opt for a more casual blue evening dress like the one designed by Matthew Williamson as its loose flowing fabric stops it from looking too formal.
Bold and beautiful
If you really want to be the bell of the ball and stand out, then you may want to choose an evening dress that embraces the colour shock trend. A good example of this is Christopher Kane's neon lace dresses as they look prim and proper but bring a sense of fun thanks to their shocking colours. If you like to dress in a striking and sensual way then you may want to opt for an intense red as this will be very striking yet still look soft and feminine. Lanvin showcased this style with their stunning deep red gowns with full flowing skirts.
Ladylike
Formal Dresses
We're all obsessed with the royal wedding so it's not surprise that it's inspiring evening wear. No longer is it acceptable to have as much flesh on display as possible, but instead it's on trend to be a bit more demure ala Kate Middleton. Go for long length skirts rather than anything too short and if you're going to expose flesh make sure it's balanced out by covering up elsewhere. Remember, it's bosom or legs, never both.
